Bronze Qualifying Adventurous Journey – Tarawera Trail

2 Days Lake Tarawera

If you have already completed your training, this is a great option to complete your Adventurous Journey for your Bronze Award for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award.

This 2-day trip will take you to the Tarawera Trail. There will be approximately 6+hours of purposeful activity each day (this will included tramping/camping/cooking).

Expect to learn plenty of new, practical skills, discover more about the natural world, and have fun in a safe, friendly – but challenging – environment. Our experienced instructors are passionate outdoor educators who have your safety and well-being at the top of their priorities.

Day 1
Gear check, travel to Lake Tarawera, walk from the carpark to Hot Water beach, camp craft, debrief and route plan for the next day. Hot Water beach features naturally heated, thermal water so make sure you pack your togs. Read more here.

Day 2
Walk from Hot Water beach to the carpark, debrief, travel back to Rotorua.

  • Day 2 - Hot Water Beach to carpark / Debrief / Travel back to Rotorua


  • Overnight trip in Central North Island venue
  • Tent or Backcountry Hutt accommodation provided.
  • Transportation provided.
  • Qualified Instructor / Assessor - small groups 1-10
  • Equipment provided if required - Packs / Tents / Cookers / Jackets
  • Team Building and Leadership skills
  • Environmental stewardship
