Bronze Qualifying Adventurous Journey – The Pinnacles

2 Days Coromandel Forest Park

If you have already completed your training, this is a great option to complete your Adventurous Journey for your Bronze Award for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award.

This 2-day trip will take you into the Coromandel Forest Park and up to the Pinnacles Hut. There will be approximately 6+hours of purposeful activity each day (this will included tramping/camping/cooking).

Expect to learn plenty of new, practical skills, discover more about the natural world, and have fun in a safe, friendly – but challenging – environment. Our experienced instructors are passionate outdoor educators who have your safety and well-being at the top of their priorities.

Day 1
Gear check, travel to the Coromandel, walk the carpark to the Pinnacles Hut, camp craft, debrief and route plan for the next day. The Pinnacles Walk through the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail takes you to the summit of the Pinnacles with spectacular views of the Coromandel Peninsula. Follow an historic packhorse route used by kauri bushmen in 1920s. Read more here.

Day 2
Walk to Pinnacles Hut back to the carpark, debrief, travel back to Rotorua.

  • Day 2 - Pinnacles Hut to carpark / Debrief / Travel back to Rotorua


  • Overnight trip in Central North Island venue
  • Tent or Backcountry Hutt accommodation provided.
  • Transportation provided.
  • Qualified Instructor / Assessor - small groups 1-10
  • Equipment provided if required - Packs / Tents / Cookers / Jackets
